Awesome. I was at all those shows

I used to WORK for the Uptones (I sold t-shirts and records - this was before CDs...)... my mom's boyfriend's wife's boyfriend managed them. And the Seahags. And the Beatnigs. And Jellyfish. And he owned the Berkeley Square.

He died a few years ago... http://people.tribe.net/dangerangel/blog/a13e6ec3-745b-4096-8f1b-cbc9dc9ab0b6

I had the EP! I saw them at berkeley Square and I believe the Stone. In fact, they were the first band I saw live.

Who was that crazed and frightening doorman, the cat who wore the spider t-shirt all the time?

This list is extremely impressive.

I still own the Uptones EP. They were the biggest thing to ever come out of Acalanes (I think)

Wow... the Berkeley Square..

Saw a lot of good shows there:

Mojo Nixon with The Jazz Butcher
Mojo NIxon with Soul Asylum.
Red Hot Chilli Peppers (with a 3 alarm chilli special.. on New Year's Eve)
The Untouchables
Fishbone
Primus
Several Chris Isaak Shows.

and of course Buck Naked and the Bare Bottom Boys.

Uptones came from Berkeley High, I'm afraid Crackpot.

Acalanes produced Will Forte and Condie Rice's speech writer. We have a lot to answer for.

Berkeley (though not Berkeley High as I recall) produce Andy Samberg, so the East Bay is well represented on SNL.

We're the new Chicago!
